Chapter 291 Knights of Sin (2)

Chapter 291 Knights of Sin (2)

Suddenly, the sky above darkened, and Jake could hear the rumble of lightning. Sparks of white and yellow danced among the black clouds that now filled the sky.

"There was a dispute. Too long ago to remember what about. And the gods were split." The voice said.

Jake could see his surroundings change once more.

It was as if he was floating in the sky now, and he could see the clouds get closer and closer.

Finally, he was above them, but it wasn\'t tranquil here. Quite the contrary. It was as turbulent as it could get, and Jake could see giant people towering over him now.

There were faces that he could recognize.

The God of Light, and the gods of the elements were the most common gods in Gaia. Every major city had temples of them, and Jake could easily tell that they were the side that he would eventually take.

Beside those gods were a few more. But obviously, they weren\'t big names, and he looked to the other side.

The Evil God and the God of Darkness, the two main forces that led the other side, were covered in a dark shroud. Jake couldn\'t see their faces, and even in his past life, he never saw their true portraits.

But beside these two gods, however, were other gods. And there were more than Jake had realized.

"All this time, I thought that it was just two gods against everyone else! To think that there were others who supported the evil god!" Jake gasped as he tried to imprint every face that he saw into his head.

"The war lasted hundreds of years. The battlefield was what you call the Evil Lands. Completely destroyed and sealed away now."

"The Knights had an agreement with all of the gods. We promised neutrality, and the gods didn\'t touch Melody. All of our neighbors fled their lands, some taking refuge in our own, for Melody became a haven to those who wished to escape this devastating war."

Suddenly, the scene changed again, and Jake was brought back to the top of a shining city, a reminder of what Melody used to be.

"And then, we made a mistake that shouldn\'t have ever been made. We decided to take sides." The voice said with melancholy.

"Envy led the others, Greed, Gluttony and Sloth to the Evil God\'s side, for their powers originated from the dark side."

"Meanwhile, Wrath decided to side with the god of fire and light, and fought for them. Pride deemed to below him to move, and Lust promised neutrality for Melody\'s sake. And with that, Melody\'s neutrality was broken."

Now, a shadow was cast over Melody\'s capital, and Jake could see the shadows of the gods cast over it.

"This mistake was devastating for the kingdom. The god didn\'t tolerate this break of heart, and Melody became the center of the battle soon."

Above, Jake could see rainbow lights suddenly flutter.

He could see streaks of light clash. Even from the distance, he could make out what armor and sword these people were donning.

"They… they are knights of sin! Are they battling each other?" Jake muttered.

"The results of the war were useless. What would melody do if either side one? Just one week of the war was enough to completely destroy half of the kingdom. Thousands died every day, and every city in the way was completely flattened." The voice said.

"Lust saw what had happened, and she couldn\'t take it anymore. Royalty and Lust brokered an arrangement, and they tried to salvage what they could."

Jake saw the city around him tear itself apart. The buildings couldn\'t bear the brunt of the aftermath when gods struck each other.

And even as this happened, he noticed that not a single number among the gods went down. This was going to be a never-ending fight unless one of the gods perished.

"Lust decided to sacrifice herself. But before she did, the knights of sin met once more. On what was once neutral ground."

Finally, Jake returned to where it all began.

They were back at the round table, where all the swords were visible, and all the knights sitting in their rightful spot.

Jake was firmly lodged in his seat, but he could see that every single gaze was directed toward him.

"You… if you sided with us, this would be so much simpler. Instead, you had to side with the god of light." Envy gnashed his teeth.\'

"Side with the Evil God instead? What would you prefer? Humanity to live as slaves in the Evil God\'s rule?" A sound came, but Jake couldn\'t tell where it came from.

It was like it came from him, but he certainly didn\'t speak.

"Better to live under the Evil God\'s rule, than not survive the war! This war will never end. Not unless there is an imbalance in divinity. We are the tipping scales! Gods have blessed us, and we can come together to form a whole once again. If we combine our weapons, we will have two divine artifacts that will finally outnumber the other side!" Envy shouted.

Jake saw an illusory hand right in front of him, as if it came from him.

"Our weapons were separated for reason. This power is too great for a mortal to bear. None of us deserve to weld a divine weapon. Let alone two." Wrath said.

"You and your righteousness. Imagine! If the Evil God wins the battle, then we can-"

"WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NEUTRAL!" Wrath shouted.

"Instead, because of your stupid decision, I am forced to fight in a war that isn\'t mine, just to ensure that the gods of righteousness do not smite Melody in anger!" He said with anger apparent in his voice.

Jake took a deep breath as he looked around once again.

All the eyes in the room were pointed at him.

"Lust. Tell me, why did you bring us to this pointless meeting?" Wrath looked at the stunning woman next to him.—————————————————————————————————————————————————
